NZ ‘Rafter’ Stamps

I am often inspired by design in many different forms & this set of postage stamps produced by NZ Post issued in 1988 are so striking. The incredible amount of detail & design that is on a canvas that is a tiny 30mm is amazing - certainly an instance of good things coming in small packages! 

These beautiful Rafter postage stamps are derived from the designs & patterns which adorn the most important interior rafters inside Maori meeting houses. The artist Sandy Adsett whose work has contributed significantly to the evloution of Maori art & design.
